Now, which of these seem more nanny like to you?
Making sure people have the information and opportunities to live healthy lifestyles? Or hectoring and lecturing people that it’s probably their own fault that they’re fat and they should just pull themselves together, get some exercise and stop blaming other people?
To me, despite the accusations of nannying against the current government, the Conservative parties sound more like nannies with their harsh bluster about responsibility, healthy eating and exercise.
What’s more is that it’s going to pointlessly put peoples backs up. I mean sure, it’s true, most overweight people are overweight because of their sedentary lifestyle and high calorie intakes. The recent announcement is just stating the obvious, ie what doesn’t need stating, in a borderline offensive way. I don’t see what they’ll achieve by that.
I’m sure the Max Moseley case, not wishing to condone anything he did, is one of the classic tabloid sophistry: it’s in the public interest, if it’s about someone who’s known by people in general, and interests our public.
